Profile- Meet Jeanne Pinard

One Invitation – A Lifelong Response
44 years ago Jeanne Pinard was invited by her pastor to teach a First Communion Class. One invitation turned out to be a lifelong response answering a call to catechetical ministry. Her work has inspired many young people who in turn have answered the call.
How did you become interested in catechetical ministry?I was called to catechetical ministry in February 1952, when my pastor, Rev. Roland Dion, told me that I was needed to teach the First Communion Class in my parish (St. Therese, Dracut, MA) for both their First Penance and First Communion. He gave me the small catechism and informed me that the children had to know the answers to all the questions before First Communion. I immediately went to our Catholic book store in Lowell and found a book on "How To: The Catechism." I completed the year, and I've been hooked ever since.
What characteristics or attributes/attitudes of Jesus do you experience as most significant for you as a catechetical leader?
Jesus’ attitude of "welcome," his openness, his ability to forgive, and his genuine love for those whom he served are some of the characteristics that I experience as most significant for me as a DRE.
What one phrase or word of advice would you offer to someone to encourage them to consider becoming a minister within the church?
Working as a minister within the church offers a life filled with joy and challenges, but the Lord is with you all the way.
What is one thing about ministry in the Church that you value the most?
Ministry is a way of exercising my stewardship of all that God has given me. It is also a way for me to live in the intimacy of the life of the Trinity.
